The Oxford URNU was founded in 1994 and is based in Falklands House, a purpose-built facility which is shared with the Royal Marines Reserve Oxford Detachment, the Oxford University Officer Training Corps and the Oxford University Air Squadron. During term time, drill nights are held here every Thursday evening.

The Unit is made up of:

  • A Commanding Officer (CO) - a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy. The current CO is Lieutenant Will Jones RN; CV (pdf)
  • A Coxswain and Second in Command - a Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Navy.
  • A Unit Secretary - a part time civilian.
  • 5 Training Officers - Lieutenants/Sub Lieutenants in the Royal Navy Reserve.
  • 51 Officer Cadets/Honorary Midshipman - led by a Senior Midshipman and a Deputy Senior Midshipman.
  • A number of Associate Members that take part in drill night training.
